Meet Promila Kumar: The artist behind the vibrant canvas

Ever since I was a little girl, I was fascinated by the bright colors of nature – beautiful flowers, insects, small creatures, and the surrounding environment. I always wanted to capture these scenes so I could always be a part of it. I started making drawings of my surroundings and later I would add colors made from earth, clay, and other pigmentations to make it look bright and colorful.

As I grew older, I learned about different types of colors and paint I could get from friends because I couldn't afford them. Once I finished my high school studies, I wanted to be an artist so I could continue to enjoy the beautiful bright colors of nature. I enrolled in one of the prestigious colleges in India and got a partial scholarship to support my education. Upon completing my BFA degree, I did not go much further. Being an Indian woman, I was asked by my parents to get married and be a housewife. My artistic journey took several steps back. I started painting fabric for local community ladies . They loved my brightly colored fabric painted dresses and sarees. This motivated me to do some small art pieces of nature and landscapes. before I new it I was  getting request for larger art pieces. This opened the doors for me to acquire a small art gallery  in a nearby mini mall. After few years I moved to a larger space and owned a gallery for 18 years taking care of customers who would come from different parts of the world to purchase my art pieces. I was forced to close my gallery due to a toxic relationship  with my spouse and in-laws. I struggle for many years trying to promote my art and had no luck. I almost gave up but After several years I got a job as an art teacher at my childhood school. I met my current spouse who convivence me to start doing what I love the most. I relocated to Libertyville small town in Illinois . I started my first art exhibition in Libertyville. Everyone loved my art pieces. This really motivated me that I was getting my dream come to reality. Now my art is in several states in the USA and  abroad. I enjoy creating unique art pieces that really inspires motivates and bring joy to  everyone's life.  I opened a One of a kind Art Gallery in Libertyville so everyone can people from all walks of life can enjoy it.
